Why The Gear Project?
The outdoor industry is built on adventure, but getting outside shouldn't require spending thousands of dollars on gear. Buy Used. Go Far.
Why We Created The Gear Project
After years of hiking, backpacking, climbing, and biking, and scouring the internet to find affordable gear, we noticed the same problem over and over again: quality gear is expensive, and there wasn't a dedicated place online built specifically for buying and selling used outdoor gear.
Meanwhile, garages, closets, and gear rooms across the country are filled with equipment that still has years of adventure left in it.
We built The Gear Project to connect adventurers who have gear they no longer use with people looking to start.
Small family-run company. Big plans for the future.
Sustainability. Accessibility. Community.
Our Mission
To Make the Outdoors More Accessible
Outdoor gear can be one of the biggest barriers to getting outside.
Whether you are preparing for your first camping trip or upgrading your backpacking setup, buying used can dramatically lower the cost of adventure.
We believe everyone should have access to quality gear, regardless of budget.
To Keep Good Gear in Use
The most sustainable piece of gear is often the one that already exists.
Outdoor gear is built to last, yet countless tents, packs, skis, bikes, and jackets sit unused every year, and general marketplaces aren't built by and for a community who uses outdoor gear.
By extending the life of gear, we help reduce waste in an industry that revolves itself around the outdoors while making high quality, affordable gear available to adventurers across the US.
To Build Community
The outdoor community has always been built on sharing knowledge, experiences, and gear.
The Gear Project is more than a marketplace. It's a place where outdoor enthusiasts can help each other get outside, whether that's by selling gear they no longer use or finding equipment for their next adventure.
What We Believe
Sustainability
Keeping quality gear out of landfills and in the hands of people who will use it.
Accessibility
Helping lower the financial barriers that prevent our community from participating in outdoor activities.
Community
Connecting outdoor enthusiasts through a shared passion for adventure.
Trust
Creating a safe, transparent marketplace designed specifically for outdoor gear.

- Exchanging of money in person or via un-verified apps.
- No protection for buyers.
