What can I sell on The Gear Project?

Our goal is to keep high-quality, ready-to-use gear in circulation. Below is a guide to what you can (and can’t) sell on The Gear Project.

Clean outdoor gear and clothing in "good" or better condition

  • No rips, stains, holes, pilling, fading, or missing parts
  • Fully functional without need for repairs
  • Tags and labels are still visible

Clothing from high-quality outdoor focused brands

❌ Items We Do Not Accept

Any gear or clothing in fair or worse condition (with holes, stains, rips, pilling, etc.)

Gear or clothing that needs repair or is missing parts

Safety items, including (but not limited to): helmets, climbing hardware, climbing ropes, harnesses, avalanche beacons, etc.

Items with embedded (non-removable) batteries (Garmin inReach, Rocky Talkies, rechargeable headlamps, etc.) We CANNOT ship batteries. If you are listing an item with removable batteries, ensure you remove them before taking photos and before shipping.

Any items longer than 46" (boxes cannot be longer than 48"), or heavier than 49 lbs WITH packaging material.

Clothing

❌ No fast fashion brands (Amazon, Shein, H&M, etc.) Clothing doesn’t need to be made by one of the brands on our brand list, but the goal is to only have high-quality apparel ready for multiple owners!

❌ No socks & underwear

Footwear

❌ No footwear with less than 50% of tread left.

Camp & Hike

❌ No knives or pocketknives

❌ No hunting equipment

Climb

❌ No safety gear (helmets, harnesses, rope, hardware, ice screws, etc.)

Snow

❌ No Ski/Snowboard bindings older than 5 years

❌ No skis or snowboards (we hope to sell these soon!)

Water

❌ No SUPs

❌ No Kayaks/Canoes

❌ No PFDs

❌ No paddles (unless they are under 46" in length)

❌ No Surfboards

Bike

❌ No full bikes, only bike parts (at this time, due to shipping. We hope to add these in the future!)

❌ No helmets

This is not an all-inclusive list, and The Gear Project reserves the right to change this list at any time.

If users publish prohibited items or unclear listings, The Gear Project may:

  • Remove the listing
  • Ask for edits or clarification
  • Suspend accounts

Our goal is to keep The Gear Project safe, trusted, and focused on high-quality outdoor gear.

The Gear Project is family run by a small team, meaning we are limited most by what we can ship. As the platform grows, we hope to be able to move more items to our accepted list!
